Ateliers Duchemin: Stained Glass, A Collaborative Creation with Design Professionals

For six generations, Ateliers Duchemin, a loyal exhibitor at the International Heritage Fair, has carried on the tradition of stained glass. The workshop puts its expertise, handed down through tradition and family, to work on the restoration of stained glass heritage and on contemporary creation alike. As the preferred partner of artists, architects and designers, it helps shape the heritage of tomorrow.

Stained glass born of dialogue

For the workshop, a stained glass window only exists through the meeting of a place, a creator, a fine craftsperson and the prescriber's vision. Every window is made to measure. The design office listens to each project, produces samples and advises on both technical and artistic choices. A creative studio and an archive of historic designs round out this support.

Projects with leading design teams

At the historic headquarters of Société Générale in Paris, the workshop restored the great glass roof, listed as a Monument historique: 2,165 panels covering 607.13 m², in an occupied building and with work carried out at night. The project was supervised by, among others, Ursula Buiso, heritage architect, and Isabelle Morin-Loutrel, Regional Curator of Historic Monuments. At the Hôtel Negresco in Nice, the workshop restored and recreated painted stained glass windows with Pierre-Antoine Gatier, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments. At the Abbaye de Lérins, it produced eleven contemporary stained glass windows designed by Vera Molnár.

At the Hôtel du Louvre, the workshop restored a 19th-century overhead glass ceiling discovered beneath a false ceiling. At The Peninsula hotel, it restored and recreated historic glass roofs and created several stained glass windows and glass roofs with Affine Design. For the Hermès boutique in Strasbourg, it designed four three-dimensional undulating glass panels with RDAI, using an innovative installation technique. At the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech, it produced ten monochrome mouth-blown glass windows with Studio KO.

The workshop has also worked with artists such as Jean-Michel Alberola, Geneviève Asse, Olivier Debré and Aurélie Nemours. These collaborations confirm its ambition: to create "stained glass of its time and for its time."

A skilled team, a family history

The workshop's craftspeople, all qualified, master the traditional techniques of stained glass. Its installers are certified for work at height. Founded in 1950 by Raymond and Claude Duchemin, the workshop has been run since 2015 by Marie and Charlotte Rousvoal, the sixth generation.
